Problems with devices connected via Wi-Fi

Updated 3 months ago by

There may be problems with devices that you have connected via Wi-Fi. Common problems include printing not working reliably, the app repeatedly switching to offline mode, or card payments not being able to be processed correctly.

These problems may be due to the fact that Wi-Fi routers usually have both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands enabled at the same time. When devices switch back and forth between these two frequency bands, connection interruptions and instability can occur. This is particularly detrimental to devices that require a continuous connection.

One possible solution to this problem is to fix the frequency band of the Wi-Fi router to 2.4 GHz. You can do this in the settings of your router. Below you will find general instructions on how to fix the frequency band on your router to 2.4 GHz. Please note that these settings vary depending on the router model. If you have any questions, consult the user manual for your router or contact your Internet provider.

  1. Log into the settings of your router
    1. Open a web browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari) and enter the IP address of your router (usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
    2. Enter your username and password (you can usually find these on a sticker on your router or they are provided by your Internet provider).
  2. Find the Wi-Fi settings
    1. Look for an area labeled “Wireless,” “Wi-Fi settings ,” or “Advanced settings .”
    2. You may see separate options for 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.
  3. Enable or configure 2.4 GHz
    1. Make sure the 2.4 GHz network is enabled.
    2. Set the SSID (Wi-Fi name) for the 2.4 GHz network (e.g. “YourNetwork_2.4GHz”).
    3. Select the encryption type (we recommend WPA2 for security) and set your Wi-Fi password.
  4. Optional: Disable the 5 GHz network
    1. If you want all your devices connected to the Wi-Fi network to run on the 2.4 GHz network, you can disable the 5 GHz network.
    2. To do this, look for the settings for the 5 GHz network and deactivate this network.
  5. Save Settings and restart the router
    1. Click Save or Apply for the changes to take effect.
    2. You may also need to restart your router for the changes to take effect.
  6. Need help?
    1. Check your router's user manual. The settings menus may vary depending on the router brand.
    2. If the user manual is not helpful, contact your Internet provider for further support.

By configuring your router to prioritize or limit to the 2.4GHz network, you can ensure more consistent Wi-Fi connectivity across your devices.
