Problems with the NFC function

Updated 1 week ago by

If the NFC function does not work reliably, dirty contacts could be the cause.

  • With readyGo:
Open the printer cover as if you were changing a receipt roll. There are two contacts on the left side. Gently wipe them with your finger to clean them. Then close the cover and attempt a card payment.
  • With the readyMini:
Remove the cover on the back of the device. Gently wipe the gold contacts with your finger. Replace the cover, making sure it's flush.
  • With the readyTab:
This device does not have the contacts mentioned. Cleaning is not required.

Another possible cause concerns the type of payment card used. If your customer uses a girocard, it may not have Visa or MasterCard co-branding (also called co-badging). Co-branding means that one card combines two features and two brands—in this case, a girocard and Visa or MasterCard.

Cards without an active Visa/MasterCard co-branding cannot be used with readyPay, as billing is handled exclusively via the co-branding. This particularly applies to older girocards (e.g., red Sparkasse cards), which display the Visa/MasterCard logo but have not been activated for contactless payments (NFC). Such cards only work by inserting or swiping – which isn't possible with Apple Pay or Google Pay without a physical card.

In addition, some banks (e.g., ING or comdirect) issue secondary cards that generally do not have Visa/MasterCard co-branding. Therefore, these cards cannot be accepted via readyPay either.
