readyPay Error Code 51

Updated 1 week ago by

Error code 51 can have various causes.

You should first try restarting the device.

Another possible cause concerns the type of payment card used. If your customer uses a girocard , it may not have Visa or MasterCard co-branding (also called co-badging). Co-branding means that one card combines two functions and two brands—in this case, a girocard and Visa or MasterCard.

Cards without an active Visa/MasterCard co-branding cannot be used with readyPay, as billing is handled exclusively via the co-branding. This particularly applies to older girocards (e.g., red Sparkasse cards), which display the Visa/MasterCard logo but have not been activated for contactless payments (NFC). Such cards only work by inserting or swiping – which isn't possible with Apple Pay or Google Pay without a physical card.

In addition, some banks (e.g., ING or comdirect) issue secondary cards that generally do not have Visa/MasterCard co-branding. Therefore, these cards cannot be accepted via readyPay either.
